The High Court has ordered authorities not to harass or show former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy arrested in any new cases, and issued a rule asking the government to explain why repeatedly showing her arrested in fresh cases despite securing bail in 10 cases should not be declared illegal.
A High Court bench led by Justice Razik Al Jalil passed the order today (26 April).
Senior lawyer Barrister Sara Hossain and Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju appeared for Ivy during the hearing.
Speaking to journalists, Motahar said Ivy had secured bail from the High Court in 10 cases but she was subsequently shown arrested in two new cases.
A writ petition was filed challenging the legality of such arrests, he added.
Ivy was arrested on 9 May last year from Chunka Kutir in Narayanganj’s Deobhog area.
