BNP has announced a rally in the capital to mark International Workers’ Day. The programme will be held in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on the day.
BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to attend the rally as the chief guest.
The announcement was made yesterday (23 April) by BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan at a press conference following a preparatory meeting of the committee formed to observe International Workers’ Day at the party’s central office.
He said the rally, organised by the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, will be chaired by its resident Anwar Hossain. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will attend as a special guest. Leaders from different tiers of BNP and its labour wing are also scheduled to speak at the event.
Nazrul Islam Khan said that workers’ demands—including fair wages, workplace health and safety, and security of livelihood—remain unmet. He added that the labour wing would continue its movement to realise these demands and stressed that even though BNP is in power, more initiatives are needed to ensure workers’ legitimate rights.
Among others present at the press conference were BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Sramik Dal Chief Coordinator Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, and its President Anwar Hossain, along with leaders and activists from various levels.
