Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Choudhury today (23 April) said there is no shortage of fuel in the country and the situation is expected to return to normal within the next two to three days.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting on maintaining industrial stability ahead of Eid-ul-Azha in Gazipur and Dhaka industrial zones, he also said the recent fuel price adjustment in Bangladesh was aligned with global market trends.
Responding to queries from journalists, the minister said industries have been issued fuel cards so they can collect fuel from petrol pumps on a priority basis and avoid confusion among the public.
“Industrial establishments have been instructed to collect fuel separately using the cards. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved within a couple of days,” he added.
The meeting, chaired by Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, was held to ensure overall stability in industrial areas of Gazipur and Dhaka districts ahead of Eid and to facilitate orderly payment of workers’ wages and bonuses.
Among others, Gazipur-1 lawmaker Mujibur Rahman, Gazipur-3 MP Rafiqul Islam Bacchu, Gazipur-5 MP AKM Fazlul Haque Milon, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharif Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Additional Inspector General of Police Israel Howlader, Gazipur Police Superintendent Sharif Uddin and representatives from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association attended the meeting.
