A Dhaka court today (20 April) placed two associates of former defence and security adviser to the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Major General (retd) Tarique Siddique, on a four-day remand in connection with a case linked to the anti-discrimination student movement.
The accused are Md Mahidul Islam, 42, and Md Chan Miah, 46. One of them is reportedly the driver of Tarique Siddique, while the other is his caretaker.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam passed the order today (20 April), confirmed State prosecutor Harun-or-Rashid.
Earlier the day, Investigative Officer Inspector Amjad Hossain Talukder produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
After hearing the application, the court granted a four day remand.
According to the remand petition, the accused carried out instructions allegedly passed down from senior leaders of the banned Awami League, including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, through Tarique Siddique.
Investigators allege that the suspects delivered money, arms, and ammunition to individuals involved in suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement across different areas of Dhaka.
Earlier, Mahidul Islam was arrested from Thakurgaon, while Chan Miah was detained from the Bhashantek area of Dhaka.
