Following a human chain by dismissed employees of six Islami banks, the Islami Bank Customers Coordination Council held a counter programme in the Dilkusha area of Motijheel demanding the arrest of S Alam, recovery of allegedly laundered money, and cancellation of a new provision in the bank resolution law.
At the programme, Council President Nurun Nabi Manik announced a five-point demand along with a 15-day programme of action.
The five-point demands are as follows:
1. Arrest of alleged bank looter S Alam and other top looters, seizure of domestic assets, and return of money allegedly transferred abroad.
2. Repeal of section 18/A added to the bank resolution law, which they say enables rehabilitation of bank looters.
3. Action against alleged mob creators linked to S Alam, including the Patiya group, warning that the government will be responsible for any consequences if they are allowed to operate again.
4. No entry of any illegal occupying group into banks will be tolerated.
5. Immediate return of bank ownership to original owners, claiming it was forcibly taken over through political force.
The 15-day programme includes distributing leaflets with the five-point demands through online platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and X, as well as printing posters if necessary.
It also includes popularising the demands among unemployed students, youth, and small traders, and using allegedly seized funds for employment generation.
Other steps include identifying alleged collaborators among bank officials, government officials, and law enforcement, and maintaining records of their activities.
The programme also calls for publishing information on alleged looting and money laundering in media and social platforms, and organising human chains, meetings, and seminars at district and upazila levels involving small traders and bank depositors.
