Police have said a prior altercation and a financial dispute led to the killing of one Asadul Haque in the capital’s Mohammadpur area, with acquaintances allegedly calling him out from his residence before stabbing him.
Speaking at a briefing at the DMP Media Centre today (18 April), Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) Md Ibne Mizan said the suspects were identified using information technology following the incident.
Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident: Md Munna, 24, Aktar Hossain, 45, Miraj Fakir, 22 and Nayan, also known as Khokon, 24. They were arrested in Keraniganj.
“Initially, we conducted drives in Mohammadpur and nearby areas. Later, we arrested the four people, including the mastermind, from Keraniganj. Based on their information, we recovered the motorcycle and the weapon used in the killing,” he said.

Police said tensions escalated from an earlier altercation, after Aktar filed a case that led to the arrest and imprisonment of Asadul Haque, 28, also known as Lambu Asadul. Following his recent bail, a lingering financial dispute between the two further fuelled the motive.
“Seeking revenge, Aktar, with the help of associates, called Asadul out late at night and attacked him by stabbing and hitting him with bricks,” the DC added.
A murder case has been filed by the victim’s cousin. The arrestees are being sent to court with a remand plea, he said.
Officials said both the victim and several accused had prior records. Asadul faced six cases, including four related to narcotics. Munna has seven cases involving drugs and robbery, while Miraj and Nayan have one and two cases, respectively. No case has been found against Akhtar.
Addressing concerns over crime in Mohammadpur, the DC said regular drives are carried out in areas such as Rayerbazar, Bosila and Dhaka Uddyan.
He added that some offenders enter from outside to commit crimes and flee, prompting police to reinforce checkpoints and intensify operations.
Regarding the political affiliation of the suspects, the official mentioned that Akter’s political background is currently being verified.
The killing took place around 12:50am on Thursday (16 April) on a road adjacent to Sadek Khan’s brickfield in the Rayerbazar Beribadh area of Mohammadpur.
Separately, RAB2 has arrested two other individuals, Asadul Islam and Md Shaon, in the Metro Housing area in connection with the same case.
