The Bangladesh Police Association has called for dedicated lines and booths for police personnel at petrol pumps across the country to ensure uninterrupted law enforcement and emergency services.
In an application submitted to the inspector general of police (IGP) today (17 April), the association’s president Kamrul Hasan Talukder and general secretary Monirul Haque Dablu urged authorities to take necessary measures in this regard.
According to the association, police members currently have to wait in long queues alongside the general public at pumps, often for hours, to collect fuel. This, they said, leads to a significant loss of working hours and hampers the timely delivery of emergency services.
The association noted that delays are affecting critical duties such as arrest operations, emergency patrols, crime scene response, and rapid deployment during disasters and accidents.
It also said in some cases, police personnel attempting to bypass queues due to urgent needs have faced public backlash and even fines from mobile courts, creating further complications.
In the interest of public service and efficient duty execution, the association requested the introduction of priority-based fuel supply through separate lines or special booths at both government and private fuel stations, upon presentation of official identification.
