Jahangirnagar University has decided to implement one hour of daily load shedding due to reduced electricity generation caused by a nationwide energy shortage.
Power supply across the campus will remain suspended from 4pm to 5pm each day, according to a notice issued by the university’s Public Relations Office yesterday (16 April).
The notice stated that a significant shortfall has emerged at the university substation due to decreased power generation, with only one-third of daily electricity demand currently being met, making uninterrupted supply difficult to maintain.
University administration sources said the scheduled load shedding has been introduced to manage the gap between demand and supply.
Sources at the zonal office of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board in Shimultala, Savar, said power supply cannot be maintained at normal levels due to the national energy crisis, which is also affecting the university area.
Mohammad Mohiuddin, acting director of the university’s Public Relations Office, sought cooperation from all concerned in such circumstances, while the university administration apologised for the inconvenience.
