Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) acting commissioner Md Sarwar has called for strengthening beat policing and community policing to make the police force people-friendly, while ensuring that people receive desired legal services from police stations.
He made the remarks today (16 April) at the monthly crime review meeting for March, held at the DMP headquarters conference room, addressing senior police officers.
The acting commissioner said the overall law and order situation in the capital is currently stable, and everyone must remain vigilant to maintain this stability. He ordered the strengthening of foot patrols and conducting operations to recover drugs and arrest wanted suspects in each police station area.
Additional police commissioner (crime and operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam said public expectations are high, and everyone must work with greater dedication to meet those expectations, adding that a zero-tolerance policy will be followed in controlling law and order.
At the meeting, the acting commissioner awarded DMP officers of various ranks in different categories in recognition of their excellent work in maintaining law and order, controlling crime, and ensuring public safety in Dhaka city during March.
Among others present at the meeting were additional police commissioners Masud Karim (counter-terrorism and transnational crime), Md Shafiqul Islam (DB), Md Anichur Rahman (traffic), Sana Shaminur Rahman (protection and diplomatic security), and Mohammad Osman Gani (estate, development and ICT).
