Copy-paste remains the most common basic ICT skill with 84.4% of users performing the task, according to a recent survey by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The findings were presented today (16 April) at the BBS office in Agargaon, under the project titled “Measuring ICT Access and Usage.”
The survey found that 53.4% of people in the country use the internet.
However, there is a significant gap between urban and rural areas, with usage at 75.7% in cities and 43.6% in rural areas.

Mobile phone use is widespread, with 88.4% of people using mobile devices, although only 64.4% own one. In contrast, computer use remains limited at just 11.3%.
The survey also shows that 64.4% of users searched for government job-related information in the past three months, the highest among all purposes, followed by 49.8% who looked for sports-related content. Only 11.6% reported shopping online.
Regarding digital safety, 78.5% of users said they were able to take necessary action after experiencing cyber attacks.
Cost remains a major barrier, with 43.6% of respondents saying they are unwilling to use internet services due to high prices.
Geographically, internet use is highest in Dhaka and lowest in Panchagarh.
