A one-month-old fawn that took shelter inside an abandoned pipe after being chased by dogs in Mirsharai has been rescued and safely released back into the forest, where it was reunited with its mother.
The incident occurred yesterday (15 April) at the CP intersection in the Mirsharai Economic Zone, said Mohammad Nowshad, an official of the Mirsharai Range.
“After being chased by dogs into a locality, the fawn took refuge inside an abandoned pipe. We rescued it after receiving information from a local security guard. The frightened mother was waiting in the nearby forest, and we returned the fawn to her,” he told The Business Standard.
Nowshad added that the construction of embankments has prevented saline water from entering the adjacent forest in the Mirsharai Economic Zone, leading to a shortage of food.
“As a result, the remaining deer are frequently coming into local areas in search of food and are falling victim to attacks by local dogs,” he said.
On Tuesday, an adult deer that had been attacked by dogs in the Muhuri Project area of Mirsharai was later captured by some individuals. The animal was slaughtered, and a video of the incident spread on social media, prompting coastal forest officials to launch an operation to arrest the suspects.
