The government is set to import 17,000 more metric tonnes of refined diesel from India this month through the Friendship Pipeline to strengthen the country’s energy security.
5,000 tonnes are scheduled to be pumped tomorrow and are expected to arrive within 4–5 days, while the remaining 12,000 tonnes will reach before the end of this month, Manager of Meghna Petroleum Limited Kazi Md Rabiul Alam told BSS today (15 April).
The remaining supply will come in two subsequent phases of 7,000 and 5,000 tonnes respectively, he added.
Earlier, the government imported 8,000 metric tonnes of diesel, which arrived at the Parbatipur depot in Dinajpur last Friday.

Officials said pipeline-based imports significantly reduce transportation costs and ensure a stable fuel supply for the northern districts.
“We are maintaining sufficient stock and the supply chain is normal. There is no concern of a crisis,” Rabiul Alam assured.
In March, the government imported 17,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India through the same pipeline route.
