Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (14 April) offered prayers at the grave of Mazlum Jananeta Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani at Santosh in the Sadar upazila of Tangail.
He went to the grave premises around 5pm and offered fateha there, said PM’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
The prime minister also offered prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Maulana Bhasani, he added.
Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku and lawmaker Abdus Salam Pintu were present on the occasion.
Later, the prime minister visited the house where Maulana Bhasani used to live in Santosh. He also signed the visitors’ book kept there.
Earlier, the prime minister inaugurated a Baishakhi agricultural fair at the municipal park in the district town and visited different stalls at the fair.
Tarique Rahman later went to the Circuit House, where he offered Zohr prayers and had lunch.
In the morning, the prime minister arrived in Tangail by road from Dhaka and joined the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Farmer Card’ distribution programme at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Sadar Upazila here at 11:20 am.
On the occasion of the Pahela Baishakh-1433, the premier digitally launched the programme by pressing a button on a laptop at 12:22pm.
