A Rohingya youth sustained severe injuries to his left leg after a landmine exploded this morning (10 April) along the zero line at the Balukhali border in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
The injured Md Sadeq, 25, is a resident of Block F-13 of Rohingya Camp No 10 in Balukhali.
The blast occurred at about 10am inside Myanmar territory near the zero line of the border in Palongkhali union, said Lieutenant Colonel Md Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of BGB Ukhiya 64 Battalion.
Quoting local sources, Zahirul said Sadeq and several others were fishing inside Myanmar territory near the Naf River along the zero line in the morning.
At one point, a sudden loud explosion occurred, causing Sadeq to collapse onto the muddy riverbank, he said, adding that the blast severely mutilated his left ankle.
Others present at the scene rescued him and took him to the MSF hospital in Kutupalong.
Due to his critical condition, the attending physician later referred him to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment, the BGB official added.
