Parliament today (6 April) passed seven bills as part of the move to endorse the relevant ordinances promulgated during the interim government period.
Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman placed the bills in parliament and Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, who was chairing the House, later piloted the bills separately to voice votes.
The bills include six approved ordinances that were issued during the interim government period: Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill 2026, Electoral Rolls (Amendment) Bill 2026, Delimitation of Parliamentary Constituency Bill 2026, Election Commission Secretariat (Amendment) Bill 2026, Election Officer (Special Provision) (Amendment) Bill 2026, and Bangladesh Law Officers (Amendment) Bill 2026. The other bill repealed the National Parliament Secretariat (Interim Special Provisions) Ordinance.
Out of the interim government’s 133 ordinances, 98 were designated by a special parliamentary committee for presentation as bills to be converted into law.
These ordinances must be passed within 30 days of the parliamentary session’s start, meaning they should be passed by 10 April.
Today, 10 of the 98 ordinances were introduced in parliament as bills.
The deputy speaker adjourned parliament until 10:30am tomorrow (7 April), with two sessions scheduled in morning and afternoon.
