A UK-based former Jubo Dal leader Moshiur Rahman Mamun has filed a written complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against 22 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former DGFI Director General Lieutenant General (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, over his own enforced disappearance.
He submitted the complaint today (6 April) to the tribunal’s Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam. Mamun did not disclose the names of anyone except two of the 22 accused.
Moshiur Rahman told reporters that he was abducted on 23 February 2015 while travelling from Dhaka airport to Bangkok. Plainclothes police took him into custody. He was handcuffed, blindfolded, and held for six months.
On 23 August 2015 he was transferred to Detective Branch custody and later produced in court. After two remand periods, he spent nearly two years in Dhaka Central Jail before being released on High Court bail.
Mamun said he cannot disclose the names of all accused at this time, as many have left the country and revealing others could prompt them to leave as well.
He is currently involved in BNP politics. He began his political career with Chhatra Dal in 1985 and was a member of BNP’s Central Election Monitoring Cell in 2001.
