The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) today (5 April) allowed its investigation agency to interrogate former deputy inspector general (DIG) Abdul Jalil Mondal in a crimes against humanity case over killings during the Hefajat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka in 2013.
The tribunal granted the permission following a prosecution application and directed that the interrogation be conducted on any one day within the next 15 days.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim appeared for the prosecution and also sought two more months to submit the investigation report in the case.
Earlier, on 31 March, the tribunal ordered that Jalil be sent to jail after showing him arrested in the case.
He was detained by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) from the Sabujbagh area of the capital on the evening of 30 March.
During the Hefajat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar on 5 May 2013, Jalil was serving as an additional commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
He also served as an additional director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The tribunal today fixed 7 June for the submission of the investigation report.
Six accused in the case, including Shahriar Kabir and Abdul Jalil Mondal, were produced before the tribunal earlier in the day.
The others are former state minister for home affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan, former inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Haque, and former deputy inspector general of police Molla Nazrul Islam.
