At least 30 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a football-related dispute and previous enmity in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila this evening (3 April).
According to locals, the incident took place at around 7pm in the Munsurabad bus stand area under Hamirdi union. Tensions had reportedly been brewing between youths from Munsurabad and neighbouring Khapura village following an altercation during a football match announcement a few days ago.
Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector Mamun of Bhanga Police Station said they rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
The injured were taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and other local facilities for treatment.
Police said the situation is now under control, and further legal actions will be taken if necessary.
The situation reportedly escalated this afternoon (3 April) when two youths from Khapura were allegedly beaten by rivals from Munsurabad. In retaliation, locals from Khapura attacked and assaulted Munsurabad Market Committee President Jinnat Molla.
Later, both sides engaged in a violent clash using local weapons such as sticks, bricks and other sharp weapons.
Witnesses said the clash intensified in the dark, with participants using torchlights while attacking each other.
