Bangladesh Rastra Sanskar Andolan accused the BNP of continuing a pattern of “historic deception” through its stance on the cancellation of key reform ordinances.
The allegation was made at a discussion titled “Constitutional Legitimacy of Reforms: The Impact of Absolute Majority,” held at the political organisation’s central office in Dhaka today (3 April).
Speaking at the event, Rastra Sanskar Andolan President Hasnat Kaiyum expressed concern over the political situation, alleging a “mysterious alignment” between the ruling and opposition parties that is undermining public expectations after the July Uprising.
Kaiyum, criticising the debate on reform legitimacy as a political maneuver and accusing a former BNP-led government’s act of ignoring public aspirations by rejecting a three-alliance framework, said, “People had hoped for fundamental change following the uprising, but those hopes are being crushed.”
“The initiative to form a joint constitutional amendment committee by the government and the opposition alliance is pushing the nation toward deep disappointment.
By attempting to cancel important ordinances, BNP is once again trying to keep the constitution subject to the will of those in power,” he added.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan also announced plans to launch nationwide campaigns and public outreach programs to build support for what it called “genuine reforms” and to oppose “politics of deception.”
