A Dhaka court has granted bail to singer Abu Jahid, known as Jahid Antu, in a case filed over alleged molestation of his former girlfriend, an Eden College student.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam issued the order today (2 April). Sub-Inspector Tahmina Akter of the Dhaka Metropolitan Prosecution Division confirmed the development.
The court granted bail until 19 April on a Tk500 bond after hearing arguments from both sides.
Dhaka Bar Association General Secretary Syed Nazrul Islam moved the bail petition for the accused, while lawyer Jasim Uddin opposed it on behalf of the complainant.
Police arrested Jahid Antu from the capital’s Gulshan Avenue area yesterday. The court later sent him to jail and fixed today for the bail hearing.
According to the case statement, the accused and the complainant, an Eden College student, became acquainted during guitar classes at TSC and later developed a relationship, which eventually ended.
The complaint states that Jahid contacted the student via WhatsApp on 27 March and asked her to visit his residence for a product photoshoot.
On Tuesday evening, the student went to Jahid’s residence in Gulshan.
After she arrived, Jahid allegedly sexually harassed and molested her by touching various sensitive parts of her body against her will.
When she resisted, Jahid allegedly beat her indiscriminately, leaving injuries to her face, neck and head.
The student later managed to leave the house tactfully and, with the help of her relatives, received primary treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.
She subsequently filed a case at Gulshan Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
