The authorities concerned have seized a total of 3,72,388 litres of illegally stored fuel during drives conducted across the country in March.
Monir Hossain Chowdhury, spokesperson of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and Joint Secretary (Operations), revealed the information at a press conference held at the Secretariat today (2 April).
A total of 4,824 drives were conducted between March 3 and April 1, during which 2,009 cases were filed.
Besides, fines amounting to Tk1,01,00,435 were imposed while 24 people were sentenced to imprisonment during the drive, he added.
The seized fuel included 2,71,374 litres of diesel, 30,960 litres of octane and 70,054 litres of petrol, the official said.
