Authorities have seized a container that was taken out of Chattogram Port using forged documents, officials said today (1 April).
The 40-foot container, numbered HMMU-4175990, was released using fake paperwork linked to Continental Traders under Rotation No. 25/3871 of the vessel Swadeshi Chittagong.
Fahim Atair & Composite Limited was listed as the importer.
According to a press release, CPA Secretary Refayet Hamim said the container was moved out of the NCT Backup Yard yesterday (31 March) using forged documents, including an on-chassis permit, invoice and gate pass in the name of JS International C&F Agent.
It exited through the CPAR gate at around 4:30am.
Acting on a tip-off, the port’s security wing launched an intelligence-driven operation and traced the container’s location later in the day.
The container, along with the trailer carrying it, was seized at around 11:30pm from BMD Saiful Engineering Workshop, a garage located beside the Shahjalal Truck Terminal in the Barnighat area of Halishahar.
The drive was carried out jointly by port security, intelligence agencies and law enforcement personnel.
Those involved in the incident managed to flee before the authorities arrived.
The port authority has formed a high-level probe committee to identify those responsible and bring them under legal action.
A case is now being processed with the Bandar Police Station.
