The 13th National Parliament will hold a two-hour discussion on the ‘July National Charter 2025: Roadmap for the Future’ on 5 April as a ruling party lawmaker’s adjournment motion was accepted today (1 April).
Speaker Hafiz Uddin announced the decision this evening, after disposing of a notice provided by Zainul Abdin Farroque, member of parliament for the Noakhali-2 constituency.
The speaker stated that, according to Rule 62 (2) of the Rules of Procedure, an adjournment motion granted leave by the House is raised for discussion on a day fixed within three days of the date of grant. Accordingly, the date for the discussion has been fixed for 5 April.
Earlier, Zainul Abdin Farroque sought permission to move the proposal in the House and read out the notice at the direction of the speaker.
The notice stated, “The ‘July National Charter 2025’ is a document of political consensus, containing proposals for the formulation, amendment, and refinement of various laws and regulations, including constitutional amendments. Therefore, a discussion is necessary by adjourning the parliament to determine its implementation methodology.”
At that time, the speaker remarked that this is the first time in the country’s parliamentary history that a member of the ruling party has brought forward an adjournment motion, which is an exceptional event.
