Two auto-rickshaw drivers were killed and at least four others injured after being hit by a vehicle on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla early today (1 April).
The deceased, identified as Barek, 42, and Mostafa, 40, of Sarkarpur village, were both auto-rickshaw drivers by profession.
Md Iqbal Bahar Majumdar, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident.
The injured were identified as Nabi Hossain, 38, Kawsar, 40, Ismail, 37, and Sagar Mia, 35. They have been admitted to different hospitals in the district.
According to highway police, six people were traveling in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. The vehicle was hit by an unidentified transport while it was crossing the highway on the wrong side of the road. Barek and Mostafa died on the spot.
The OC said, “One of the injured has been sent to Dhaka in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families.”
