National Citizen Party (NCP) Member of Parliament Abdul Hannan Masud today (31 March) alleged that July Uprising victims and families of those killed face mistreatment when seeking services at the July Uprising Directorate.
He raised the issue during the question-and-answer session in parliament, addressing Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan.
Masud also asked whether the directorate would receive budgetary support and if there were any plans to expand its scope.
In response, the minister said the Directorate of July Mass Uprising has already been established under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to preserve the history of the 2024 uprising and ensure the welfare of those killed and injured.
He added that there is currently no plan to expand the ministry by incorporating the July Uprising into its structure.
In another question, Masud said that despite the establishment of the directorate, there have been complaints from various quarters that injured individuals and families of victims are not receiving proper services.
He also alleged that some have faced poor treatment when visiting the office.
“We have emerged from the July Uprising, so we want to know whether the minister has taken any steps in this regard,” he said.
In reply, the minister said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been in office for less than two months, and during his tenure, efforts have been made to treat all July fighters with due respect.
He assured the House that the ministry and the directorate would work to address the concerns and ensure proper services for those affected by the uprising.
