The government has not taken any decision yet to rename Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita said today (31 March).
Her clarification came during the question-and-answer session in parliament’s first session, in response to a query from Chattogram-3 MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam, who asked whether the government had any plan to restore the airport’s previous name, “Zia International Airport”, and, if not, the reasons behind it.
In reply, the minister said no decision has been taken so far to change the name of the country’s main international gateway back to its former title.
She added that the government is currently focused on implementing various people-centric programmes in line with its election manifesto.
However, any future decision regarding the airport’s name could be considered through discussion, Afroza added.
