A mobile court has sealed a filling station for illegally stockpiling a large quantity of fuel while the pump operators are claiming shortage of fuel and halting sales.
The station’s manager, Abul Kashem Babul, 60, was sentenced to one month of imprisonment without labour and sent to jail.
The drive was conducted yesterday night (30 March) in a pump situated in Konabari of Gazipur.
During the operation, authorities seized around 34,000 liters of diesel and octane. The station’s manager was also sentenced to one month of imprisonment without labor, confirmed Executive Magistrate of Gazipur administration, Md Salehur Rahman.
According to the mobile court, the drive was carried out based on confidential information that the station had sufficient fuel in stock but had deliberately created an artificial crisis by suspending sales.
During the inspection, officials recovered 28,521 liters of diesel and 5,419 liters of octane, totaling around 34,000 liters of fuel.
Executive Magistrate Md Salehur Rahman said, “The seized fuel will be sold from 31 March through the designated official of Ward 9 of Gazipur City Corporation, and the money will be deposited into the government treasury.”
He also affirmed that such drive will continue in the public interest.
