Justice Md Rezaul Hasan of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, who faced corruption allegations, has tendered his resignation.
A Supreme Court source confirmed to The Business Standard today (31 March) that his resignation letter, addressed to the Supreme Court, was forwarded to the president yesterday (30 March).
Earlier, Justice Md Rezaul Hasan was the subject of a complaint to the Supreme Judicial Council.
The petition, filed by Shah Group Chairman K M Mozibul Haque, alleged corruption, misconduct, and abuse of power.
It requested the Council to investigate the matter and recommended that, if the allegations were substantiated, appropriate action be taken under the Constitution.
The complaint stated that “Justice Md Rezaul Hasan displayed biased conduct in the proceedings of two company cases in 2010 and 2011. In one case, arguments were attributed to him despite the absence of the concerned senior lawyer, which was later overturned by the Appellate Division. In another case, the petitioner’s wife was disregarded, resulting in the cancellation of her 1.3 million shares, which, from the petitioner’s perspective, was entirely contrary to the principles of justice.”
