Parliament session on 30 March/ Screengrab
Members of parliament today (30 March) alleged that a severe fuel crisis has emerged in various parts of the country despite claims that there are no apparent shortages.
“Although the issue of fuel has been raised today with claims that there is no crisis in the country, the reality is different,” lawmaker for Kurigram-1 Anwarul Islam said during a discussion on a public notice under Rule 71 during the parliamentary session.
“I personally visited pump after pump today and could not get oil for my car. One can easily imagine the level of suffering common people are facing.”
GM Nazrul Islam, member of parliament for Satkhira-4, echoed the same, saying petrol and octane are also unavailable at the petrol pumps in his constituency.
He alleged that while oil is not available at the pumps, it is indeed being sold at higher prices in bottles outside.
Motorcyclists, according to him, are being forced to buy oil from the open market, resulting in extreme harassment for the public.
At this time, the members of parliament called for intervention of the relevant ministry to quickly resolve the crisis.
