The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested hotel employee Md Milon Mollik, 28, for allegedly killing class ten schoolgirl Fatema Akter Nili, 18, for refusing sexual advances.
A joint operation team of RAB-3 and RAB-6 captured Milon yesterday (11 January) from the Boro Singha area of Bagerhat Sadar Thana, RAB-3 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Fayezul Arefin told the media at a press briefing held at RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar today (12 January).
Quoting the killer’s confession, Fayezul said that Milon has been working at the victim’s father’s hotel, owing to which he frequently visited the victim’s home.
“On 7 January, the victim’s father, mother and younger brother went to their village home in Habiganj for land‑related work, while three other hotel employees also went on leave. However, Milon stayed back, and as the only employee at the time, he delivered food to the victims’ home.
“Milon had been making sexual advances on the victim for quite some time. On the night before the incident, the accused went to the victim’s house to deliver food and again made advances but was rejected by the victim. When she verbally abused him, Milon became enraged and decided to take revenge the following day,” he said.
The Rab-3 commander added that on the day of the incident, when the victim’s elder sister went out to the gym, Milon slit the victim’s throat.
Fayezul said whether there was any other motive behind this brutal murder will be revealed through further investigation.
“The process of handing him over to the Khilgaon Police Station is underway,” he further added.
Earlier, on 10 January, police recovered the throat‑slit body of Fatema Akter Nili from Pritom Villa on Road No. 9, Block L, South Banasree. Following the incident, the victim’s father, Md Sajib filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station against unidentified persons.
