Three police officers were injured in a stabbing incident in the capital’s Bangshal area early yesterday (28 March), with one suspect arrested in connection with the attack.
The arrestee was identified as Md Sagar Ahmed, 30.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Media and Public Relations) Arifa Akhter Preeti confirmed the matter today (29 March).
Officer-in-Charge of Bangshal Police Station AKM Mahfuzul Haque said, “The suspect is a listed criminal, with at least six cases filed against him.”
He has been sent to court, the OC added.
According to police, a patrol team from the Bangshal police outpost stopped the suspect around 2:30am in the Ghoshpatty area for a routine check. During the search, he allegedly pulled out a switchblade knife and attacked the officers, leaving three of them injured.
Police later brought the situation under control and arrested the attacker, recovering the weapon from his possession. The suspect also sustained minor injuries during a scuffle with officers.
The injured officers, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and two constables, were given primary treatment at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital.
Police said one officer suffered a stab wound in the abdomen, while another sustained injuries to the hand requiring stitches.
