A mobile court has seized around 700 litres of fuel from an unauthorised storage facility during a drive at Manirampur upazila of Jashore this evening (28 March).
The fuel was recovered from a paddy warehouse owned by local trader Tabibur Rahman, who reportedly hid the oil in four plastic drums inside his own storage at Khedapara Bazar area of the upazila.
Confirming the matter, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mahir Dayan Amin said, “The seized fuel will be sold through a filling station and the money will be deposited into the state treasury.”
According to the mobile court, authorities initially received information about a drum of fuel being stored inside a warehouse.
Upon arriving at the scene, Tabibur was not found. Later, based on information from local residents, officials recovered three more drums of fuel from his warehouse.
Officials said the total quantity of seized fuel is estimated at approximately 700 litres, though the exact breakdown by type, diesel, petrol, and octane, could not be immediately determined.
According to locals, Tabibur had been secretly selling fuel at inflated prices ranging between Tk180 and Tk200 per litre.
It was also claimed that he would often deny having fuel in stock to regular customers while continuing to sell it discreetly at higher rates.
