A 35-year-old man was killed and another critically injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in the New Fishery Ghat area of Chattogram last night (22 March).
The deceased was identified as Irfan,35, from the city’s Mansurabad area. The injured, Soleman, is from Burumchhara in Anwara upazila.
According to police and local sources, the accident occurred around 10pm when two motorcycles collided head-on, leaving both riders critically injured. Locals rescued them and took them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam Ashik, in-charge of the CMCH police outpost, said the victims were brought to the hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared one dead on arrival. “The other is undergoing treatment in critical condition,” he added.
Police have detained Rafiqul Karim from the Toiler Dip area of Anwara in connection with the incident.
Officials also seized the two motorcycles involved in the crash, a Suzuki and a Royal Enfield.
Officer-in-Charge of Bakalia Police Station Mohammad Solaiman said legal procedures are underway.
