Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a listed criminal with a locally-made firearm from Mohammadpur of Dhaka.
The arrestee is Rubel, 27, also known as Dagi Rubel.
RAB-2 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md Shamsul Islam said a team conducted a drive on Babar Road of Mohammadpur on Saturday night after being tipped-off that some criminals-equipped with lethal weapons were staying there.
The elite force arrested Rubel with the firearm during the drive, while others managed to flee, he said.
During the preliminary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he had been involved in criminal activities, including arms trading, drug dealings, and other offences in Mohammadpur and nearby areas, the Rab official said.
Rubel has at least five cases, including narcotics and terrorism-related charges, filed with Mohammadpur police station, he said, adding that legal action against him was underway.
