Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud Khan, one of the key accused in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, has denied his involvement in the killing, reports media.
Faisal, along with Alamgir Hossain, another main suspect in the murder, were presented in a Kolkata court yesterday (21 March) following the end of their 14-day remand.
Before being taken to court, Faisal told reporters, “I didn’t do it. I was not involved in any such activity [murder].”
Alamgir did not make any comment on the matter at the time.
Earlier, on 8 March, the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police arrested Faisal and Alamgir near the Bongaon border area for illegally entering and staying in India.
So far, 12 people have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with Hadi’s murder.
On 12 December at around 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Hadi, leaving him critically injured with gunshot wounds to the head and below the right ear.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital, Dhaka.
As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment.
He died there on 18 December, about a week later, while undergoing treatment.
Following the shooting, a case was filed at Paltan Police Station on 14 December on charges of attempted murder, which was later converted into a murder case after Hadi’s death.
After the shooting, Faisal and his associate Alamgir fled to India through the Haluaghat border, which was revealed through electronic and print media, as well as technological evidence.
