The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has strengthened plainclothes intelligence surveillance at key public locations, including Eid congregation grounds, transport hubs, and other crowded areas, ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, said its acting Director General Colonel Iftekhar Ahmed.
“Extensive preparations have been undertaken to ensure public safety during the upcoming Eid,” said the acting DG after inspecting security measures at the National Eidgah ground today (19 March).
“Additional RAB personnel have been deployed at all important points, particularly at Eidgah grounds across the country, bus terminals, railway stations, and launch terminals,” he added.
“We have increased mobile patrols, foot patrols, static deployments, and checkpoint activities,” he said. “Our dog squad, bomb disposal unit, and plainclothes intelligence surveillance are active, and these measures have been significantly intensified this year.”
He further said ongoing operations against terrorism, narcotics, and other criminal activities would continue throughout the period.
The acting DG also said that RAB’s cyber monitoring team is working round the clock to prevent the spread of rumours and incitement online. “We are taking immediate action whenever any complaint is raised,” he noted.
He expressed hope that this year’s Eid would be celebrated in a peaceful and festive environment.
