President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman are expected to offer Eid-ul-Fitr prayers together at the National Eidgah in the capital, where the main congregation will be held.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam shared the information this morning (19 March) after inspecting preparations at the venue.
He said the upcoming congregation holds special significance as it will be the first Eid-ul-Fitr following the formation of a government through what he described as a free, fair and neutral election.
“The prime minister has agreed to join the Eid prayers at the National Eidgah alongside the president, allowing worshippers a rare opportunity to pray in the same congregation,” he said.
During the inspection, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam said arrangements have been made to accommodate around 35,000 worshippers.
Separate entry points and designated spaces have been arranged for women, along with adequate ablution facilities, he said.
A medical team will remain on standby to provide emergency services, while security measures have been strengthened, Salam added.
Salam further said, “If weather conditions turn unfavourable, the main congregation will be shifted to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.”
The DSCC administrator urged worshippers to arrive at the Eidgah ahead of time and sought cooperation from city residents and media personnel to ensure the smooth organisation of the event.
