Mohammad Younus, assistant controller of examinations at Cox’s Bazar International University, has been temporarily suspended for involvement in ‘derogatory’ Facebook event about Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) constituency MP and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.
The Information was confirmed in an office order issued by the university’s registrar office.
The chairman of the university’s trustee board, Lion Mohammed Muzibur Rahman, today (18 March) said, “As soon as the derogatory post, including an offensive image about the home minister, came to my attention, I took action immediately. As an employee of a higher education institution, such indecent behaviour against a government minister cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”
According to the office order, it was observed that Mohammad Younus recently shared offensive posts about the home minister from his personal Facebook and other social media profiles.
It further stated that, as a university official, involvement in such provocative or objectionable political activities on social media tarnishes the institution’s image.
In a Facebook post yesterday (17 March), Mohammad Younus rejected the allegation, saying he did not create or share the derogatory event and that the action resulted from an unintentional click, which he removed shortly after becoming aware of it.
“I apologise to the people of Cox’s Bazar and the country for this unintended mistake. I will be careful to avoid such mistakes in the future,” he added.
Meanwhile, by order of the authorities, he has been temporarily suspended from all administrative and academic activities of the university.
At the same time, he has been instructed to submit a written explanation to the registrar’s office within the next seven working days, explaining why administrative action should not be taken against him.
