The movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries on highways will remain suspended during the Eid holidays, from today (17 March) to 23 March.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) announced the decision in an emergency notice, adding that vehicles carrying essential commodities, perishable goods, readymade garments, medicines, fertilisers and fuel will remain outside the purview of the restriction.
The BRTA also instructed that no vehicles should be parked along either side of important highways during this period, reports Prothom Alo.
To ensure uninterrupted traffic movement and report any obstacles, authorities have asked people to contact the central control room of the Road Transport and Highways Division via hotline 16107 or mobile numbers 01550051606 and 01550056577, if necessary.
Earlier, on 12 March, a public notice signed by Md Sarwar, acting commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that the movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries would be suspended on highways from 17 to 23 March to facilitate smoother Eid travel for homebound passengers.
