Police have arrested the husband of a Jahangirnagar University student who was murdered and produced him before a court with a plea for a five-day remand for questioning.
The accused, Fahim Al Hasan, was shown arrested in a murder case filed over the death of Sharmin Jahan, a student of the university’s Public Administration department.
Officer-in-Charge of the north division of the detective branch of Dhaka District Police Saidul Islam said Sharmin’s uncle, Monirul Islam, filed the murder case yesterday (15 March).
In the case, Fahim Al Hasan has been named as the primary accused along with several unidentified individuals.
“Sharmin Jahan’s uncle Monirul Islam filed a murder case yesterday. In that case, Fahim Al Hasan has been shown arrested and sent to court with a plea for a five-day remand,” he said.
Meanwhile, Investigation Officer of Ashulia Police Station Md Azgar Hossain said, “Immediately after the incident, Sharmin’s husband Fahim Al Hasan was detained for questioning. Later, late last night, he was formally shown arrested in the murder case filed by Monirul Islam. This morning, he was sent to court with a five-day remand plea for interrogation,” he said.
Earlier, Sharmin’s blood-stained body was recovered from a residence in the Islamnagar area adjacent to Jahangirnagar University.
Sharmin Jahan was a student of the 51st batch (2021–22 academic session) of the Public Administration department at the university.
A physician at Enam Medical College Hospital, Enamul Haque Mia, said the victim had already died by the time she was brought to the hospital.
“There were injury marks on her head,” the doctor said.
