Four people were killed in two separate accidents in Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila yesterday (14 March), including two who died after being electrocuted and two who fell from an under-construction building, police said.
In one incident, building owner Affran Molla and glass technician Sadikul Islam were electrocuted while installing glass at an under-construction three-storey building in the Golakandail area.
Affran Molla’s son, Leon Molla, also suffered burn injuries in the incident and has been admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.
Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sabjel Hossain said the accident occurred while work was under way at Affran Molla’s under-construction house in Golakandail Dakshinpara.
Affran Molla died on the spot after coming into contact with a 33,000-volt power line passing close to the building.
His son and the technician were also injured in the incident. Sadikul Islam later died at around 7pm while undergoing treatment at the burn unit. Leon Molla remains under treatment and is in critical condition.
In a separate incident on the same afternoon, two masonry workers – Alamgir Islam and Alam Badsha – died after falling from the sixth floor of an under-construction nine-storey building while carrying out plastering work.
Police said the accident occurred on Road 503 in Sector 16 of the Purbachal Jalsiri Abashon Project when the rope they were using tore, causing them to fall.
Both workers died on the spot. Later, their bodies were handed over to their families without an autopsy.
