A man has surrendered to the police, allegedly after stabbing his wife to death following a family dispute in Chattogram’s Patenga area yesterday (14 March).
The deceased was identified as Halima Akter. She had been living with her husband in the Dakshin Para area under Ward 41 of Patenga Police Station.
Confirming the matter, Patenga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafa Ahmed said, “The killing is primarily believed to have occurred due to a family dispute. The accused has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.”
According to locals, an argument broke out between the couple over family matters shortly before iftar yesterday.
At one stage, the dispute escalated and the accused, Jahirul Islam, allegedly attacked Halima with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead on the spot.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
