To reduce passenger pressure at Sadarghat Launch Terminal and facilitate travel through alternative river routes during the Eid holiday, authorities have arranged special launch services from Bosila Bridge and Purbachal this year.
In a press release issued today (14 March), the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), under the Ministry of Shipping, confirmed the initiative.
According to the release, starting Tuesday (17 March) until the day before Eid, six special launches will operate from the Bosila launch ghat near Bosila Bridge, while three launches will run from the Shimulia Tourist Ghat near Kanchan Bridge in Purbachal, carrying passengers on various river routes.
Additionally, to improve passenger services during the Eid rush, special assistance will be provided at the Sadarghat area for elderly and female passengers to carry their luggage or bags, excluding commercial goods.
From Tuesday until 28 March, porters will provide free luggage-carrying services from the terminal to the launches for a total of 12 days.
During the same period, wheelchair services will also be available at Dhaka River Port (Sadarghat) and Barishal River Port to assist sick and physically challenged passengers.
BIWTA authorities expressed hope that these initiatives will make this year’s Eid journey safer, more orderly, and more comfortable. Passengers have also been requested to extend their cooperation to ensure the programme’s success.
