A three-member committee has been formed to investigate a fire at the Office of the Chief Controller of Stores (CCS) of Bangladesh Railway (eastern region) in Pahartali, Chattogram.
The committee will determine the actual cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage, Md Shuboktagin, general manager of Bangladesh Railway (eastern region), told The Business Standard.
Shuboktagin added, “Since renovation work was already underway at the office, important documents had been relocated elsewhere in advance. As a result, there was no significant official loss in the fire.”
“The committee has been instructed to submit a report as soon as possible. Further action will be taken after the investigation report is received,” he said.
The fire broke out late last night (13 March) around 11:30pm.
Khan Khalilur Rahman, senior station officer of Agrabad Fire Service, told TBS that two units from the Agrabad Fire Station quickly reached the scene.
After nearly 20 minutes of effort, the fire was brought under control and was completely extinguished by around 12:45am.
Khalilur said that prompt action prevented a major disaster.
According to preliminary information from the fire service, the financial loss from the incident is estimated at about Tk2.8 lakh, while goods worth Tk15 lakh were saved intact, Khalilur said.
