Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni expressed his desire to build a vibrant and effective parliament.
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (11 March), he stressed the importance of resolving all issues through discussion and hoped for constructive cooperation from the opposition to improve people’s quality of life.
Moni stated that the prime minister’s nominated speaker will preside over the parliamentary session and will be accompanied by the deputy speaker.
He also noted that no proposal has been received from the opposition regarding the deputy speaker position.
The chief whip’s statement highlighted that the current Jatiya Sangsad is a continuation of the long political struggle and sacrifices made by prime minister to establish citizens’ voting rights, ensure food security, and strengthen democracy.
He emphasised that the parliament is not just a constitutional body, but a symbol of the rights, dignity, and democratic aspirations of the people of Bangladesh.
Reflecting the hopes, trust, and expectations of the citizens, the new parliamentary session is set to begin tomorrow, he added.
The first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will begin at 11am tomorrow (12 March).
The day’s agenda includes the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
