The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced traffic diversions in several key areas of the capital tomorrow (12 March) to facilitate the movement of dignitaries attending the first session of the Jatiya Sangsad.
In a press release issued today (11 March), the police said the measures were taken as the President of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, members of parliament, foreign diplomats, leaders of various political parties, and other distinguished guests are expected to travel to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban for the parliamentary session.
During the period, traffic is expected to increase significantly in areas including Urojahaj Mor, Khejurbagan, Manik Mia Avenue, Asad Gate, and the crossing near the July Smriti Museum (Gonobhaban).
To manage the expected congestion, the traffic division of DMP will implement temporary diversions between 8am and 11am tomorrow.
According to the directives, vehicles travelling from Indira Road towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Urojahaj Mor will not be allowed to turn right.
Instead, they will proceed straight along Manik Mia Avenue and use Mirpur Road to reach their destinations. Similarly, vehicles heading from Manik Mia Avenue towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Khejurbagan will not be permitted to turn left and will instead travel through Farmgate.
The road from Urojahaj Mor to Khejurbagan will also operate as a one-way route for southbound traffic during the period. DMP has requested drivers to follow the traffic instructions and alternative routes to avoid congestion.
“We request all drivers to follow the directives from 8am to 11am on 12 March to avoid traffic congestion,” the press release said.
The police also sought the cooperation of city residents in implementing the temporary traffic arrangements.
