A man died after falling from a six-storey building in Anwara, Chattogram, early Tuesday (10 March), after which his enraged relatives vandalised the local upazila health complex and the building concerned.
The incident took place at Hashem Complex, located in front of the Upazila Health Complex, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station Md Junayet Chowdhury confirmed.
The OC said they rushed to the spot after receiving a call on the emergency number 999 at around 4:45am and rescued the deceased, Md Mahim, 25, in a critically injured condition after he fell from the building.
He was taken to the hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he added.
Following the announcement of his death, the victim’s relatives became furious and vandalised the upazila health complex and the building concerned.
“Police and army personnel later intervened and brought the situation under control,” the OC said.
OC Junayet further said that Mahim was a member of a local teen gang known by “Samrat Group” and his name was listed among local criminals at the police station.
“He had four cases against him on charges of theft and robbery.”
His body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy, and law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident, the OC said.
However, the victim’s mother, Monowara Begum, alleged that her son was murdered.
She claimed that someone had called her son out of the house around 1:30am and that the family learned about his death in the morning.
She demanded a proper investigation and justice for her son’s death.
