Police recovered the throat-slit body of a 17-year-old schoolgirl from a residence in the capital’s South Banasree area this afternoon (10 January).
The deceased was identified as Fatema Akter Nili, daughter of Sajib Mia from Bamoin village under Lakhai Police Station in Habiganj.
Confirming the matter, Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafikul Islam said, “Preliminary findings suggest it is a murder. The killing may have taken place between 1:30pm and 3:30pm.”

Victim’s elder sister Shobha said their parents were away when the incident occurred.
Upon returning home around 3:30pm, she said that she found the house locked from the outside and ransacked. Victim Nili was later found unconscious under the kitchen sink with a rope and hijab around her neck.
She was pronounced dead at a hospital, where doctors confirmed that her throat had been slit.
A cleaver, believed to have been used in the killing, was recovered from the scene. Police have launched an investigation, focusing on the possible involvement of their hotel employee Milon
