Anti-Corruption Commission Director General Motahar Hossain was allegedly mugged by three assailants after Tarabi prayers in the capital on Saturday night (7 March), with the attackers snatching his iPhone, wallet and wristwatch.
Police recovered the phone within 24 hours and arrested two of the suspects yesterday (8 March), said Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mezbah Uddin.
According to a case filed over the incident, the mugging occurred around 10:30pm near Shaheed Faiyaz Chattar beside Dhaka Residential Model College, where the ACC director general was taking a walk after prayers.
The assailants, armed with a machete and a “samurai” knife, allegedly threatened him and took away an iPhone 12 Pro Max, a wallet containing Tk20,000 in cash, and his wristwatch.
The attackers also allegedly assaulted Motahar while demanding the password to the iPhone.
They reportedly struck him with the back of the samurai knife and punched him in the left eye, leaving him injured. He then gave them the password.
