Efforts are underway to resolve the legal complexities surrounding Shakib Al Hasan’s return to competitive cricket for Bangladesh, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Bangladesh Cricket Board working jointly on the matter, BCB Director and Chairman of the Age Group Tournament Committee Asif Akbar said today (4 March).
“The BCB is continuing its work regarding Shakib’s matter. The issue has now been forwarded from the board to the ministry. The BCB’s legal aid team is also working closely with the ministry to resolve the complications,” Asif said while attending the prize-giving ceremony of the Young Tigers Under-18 National Cricket Tournament 2025-2026 at Cox’s Bazar International Cricket Stadium.
He expressed hope that Shakib would be seen back in national cricket “within the shortest possible time”.
Responding to a question from journalists, the BCB director said there are plans to develop an amusement park and star-standard hotels near Cox’s Bazar International Cricket Stadium.
He noted that several infrastructure works, including gallery construction, remain incomplete.
Although regular matches are being held at the venue, he said it currently lacks the facilities required to host major tournaments.
BCB Game Development Operations Head Qazi Habibul Bashar Sumon and BCB Selector Mehrab Hossain Opi were also present at the event.
